Description and Use

OptiSperse PO5068 is an aqueous blend of phosphate, polymeric dispersants and corrosion inhibitors. OptiSperse PO5068 contains synthetic polymers for controlling hardness and iron deposition. Polymer ratios have been developed to provide excellent deposition protection for contaminants encountered in specific treatment systems.

OptiSperse PO5068 is designed for specific operating conditions and the type of service required.

A separate feed of oxygen scavenger to the storage section of the deaerator may be desirable. For low-pressure units or boilers without feedwater steam attemperation, catalyzed sodium sulfite. For higher pressure units or units where feedwater will be used for attemperation, CorTrol* OS series products are recommended. In some systems, supplemental feed of neutralizing amines or filming amines is recommended to provide complete condensate corrosion protection.

Typical Applications

Deposit formation on boiler heat transfer surfaces is the principal cause of failure due to overheating and corrosion.

Hardness leakage from external treatment systems and iron and copper corrosion products returning with the condensate are the major deposit-causing contaminants. It is critical that their presence in feedwater be controlled to inhibit accumulation on boiler tube surfaces and resultant failure. The phosphate component in OptiSperse PO5068 reacts with the calcium hardness to form calcium phosphate, a relatively non-adherent material.

The synthetic polymers included in the OptiSperse PO5068 have proved to be highly effective in dispersing hardness precipitates as well as metallic contamination such as iron. Synthetic polymers will absorb onto the precipitates and metal ions, alter their surface charge, and inhibit their deposition on heat transfer surfaces. The solids are maintained in a fluid form and are easily removed from the boiler water by a blowdown.

Treatment and Feeding Requirements

Feedpoint – To boiler feed waterline or boiler steam drum via separate chemical feedline.

Feedrate – Sufficient OptiSperse PO5068 should be fed to maintain the recommended boiler phosphate residual.

Dilution – Use good quality condensate, demineralized water or deaerated feedwater to make a convenient feeding strength. The material may be fed neat or diluted in any proportion. If diluted, mild agitation should be provided.

Equipment – OptiSperse PO5068 can be fed using hot rolled mild steel tanks with iron piping, cast iron pump internals, fittings and shut-off valves. Relief valves, agitator shaft and propeller should be stainless-steel.
