  • Easy to handle liquid formulation

Description and Use

OptiGuard MCP5070 is an alkaline blend of sulfite, phosphate, and polymeric dispersant.

In some systems, a supplemental feed of neutralizing amines or filming amines is recommended to provide complete condensate corrosion protection.

All the ingredients in OptiGuard MCP5070 are listed in FDA 21CFR173.310 – boiler water additives for use in the preparation of steam that will come in contact with food.

Typical Applications

Oxygen corrosion “pitting” is commonly encountered in the hot well, feedwater lines, economizers, and condensate systems. Oxygen pitting can lead to equipment failure and leakage in a relatively short period of time.

Deposit formation on boiler heat transfer surfaces is the principal cause of tube failure due to overheating. Hardness leakage from the external pretreatment systems and iron and copper corrosion products returning with the condensate are the major deposit causing contaminants. It is critical that their presence in feedwater be controlled to inhibit accumulation on boiler tube surfaces and thus minimize the potential for boiler tube failure. The phosphate component in OptiGuard MCP5070 reacts with the calcium hardness to form calcium phosphate, a relatively non-adherent material.

The synthetic polymer included in OptiGuard MCP5070 has proved to be highly effective in dispersing hardness precipitates and metallic contamination such as iron. Synthetic polymers will absorb onto the precipitates and metal ions, alter their surface charge, and inhibit their deposition on heat transfer surfaces. The solids are maintained in a fluid form and are easily removed from the boiler water blowdown.

Treatment and Feeding Requirements

Feed Point – OptiGuard MCP5070 can be fed to the hot well, deaerator storage section, or suction side of the boiler feedwater pump if there is no spray attemperation water take off point after the boiler feedwater pump.

Feedrate – The initial feed rate calculations for OptiGuard MCP5070 are based on dissolved oxygen and calcium hardness levels in the boiler feedwater. Feed rate control is achieved by measuring the boiler water sulfite and ortho-phosphate reserves.

Dilution – OptiGuard MCP5070 product can be fed neat or diluted to any convenient strength with softened make-up water or condensate.
